Bob Stensholt today congratulated all suburbs in the electorate of Burwood for using less water than at the same time last year.

“Households in Boroondara, Monash and Whitehorse are to be congratulated for their water savings efforts and are encouraged to keep up the good work,” Bob Stensholt said.

“The latest figures show that household water consumption has fallen against the same period last year, which has helped Melbourne avoid harsher water restrictions.”

The Brumby Government’s Target 155 campaign has urged Melbourne water users to keep their personal water use to below 155 litres per person per day.

Melbourne has stayed below the Target since it was introduced just over twelve months ago.

“In the year since the Target 155 campaign started, Melbourne has saved over 16 billion litres of water which meant we didn’t have to go to harsher water restrictions.

“This is a fantastic effort and we need to keep up these water saving behaviours.”

Bob Stensholt said the current Stage 3a water restrictions are staying in place over summer.

Bob Stensholt said that one way to save water is by installing a water saving product at home – many of which are eligible for a Brumby Government rebate.  Application forms for rebates are available from stores like Bunnings, or by ringing Bob Stensholt’s office on 9809 1857.

“By choosing to install water saving shower heads, greywater systems, dual flush toilets and water tanks in and around the home, households are reducing their water use.
